MODE OF ACTION OF VAMANA KARMA
The prior Snehapana performed before Vamana dissolves the toxins which are mainly lipid soluble and they become membrane bound by the help of fat soluble proteins. The subsequent oleation and sudation before vamana therapy changes cell membrane permeability leading to excretion of fat soluble proteins bound toxins into the circulation.
At this stage when the Vamana Dravyas are given due to the pharmacological action of the drug molecules they activates Chemoreceptor Trigger Zones (CRTZ) in the 4th ventricle of the brain triggering the vagus nerve.

The subsequent oleation and sudation therapies done prior to administration of virechana aushadha changes the cell permeability leading to excretion of fat soluble protein bound toxins into the circulation. Due to the action of the medicaments these toxins gets eliminated into the lumen and they get hydrolysed by the enzymes in the gut, which irritates the lumen and requires bile for hydrolysis.
